An ADV is a document which must be filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission each year by financial planners and is essentially a detailed resume which discloses a dearth of information, including the advisor's education, experience, and planning procedures. An ADV also reports any litigation, fines, or penalties a manager has incurred in his or her practice, as well as the fee structure and investment instruments used in their firm. ADV forms I and II give investors an exhaustive summary of the advisor's expertise, practice, and professional history.
