What to Expect: New Client Set-up Process

Client satisfaction is a priority at IPS, and we strive to achieve it from the very beginning.

We want happy clients, which is why we work to ensure that the new client set-up process goes as smoothly as possible. Wealth managers tend to have different investment philosophies and processes, so we begin by making sure that we are a good fit for one another. After determining that our philosophies and values align, we create a roadmap to help you reach your goals. We will continue to tweak that roadmap as your situation changes throughout the years to help you navigate the speed bumps of life.

Initial Consultation:

During your initial consultation, we will discuss your unique financial situation and investment needs, including investment accounts, pensions, insurance, and estate planning. We will introduce the investment philosophy and techniques the IPS employs so we can determine if our values align with yours.

What you need to bring for our discussion:

  • Investment Account Statements
  • Annuity Statements
  • Tax Return
  • Life Insurance Policies
  • Long-term Care Policies
  • Estate Documents, including Trust or Will

Discovery Meeting:

Once you decide to hire IPS as your wealth manager, we will go through an information-gathering survey together to determine your full financial picture and future goals. We will also ask you questions about your risk tolerance to ensure that we place you in the right portfolio for your needs. We will sign the appropriate forms to begin the process of opening and funding your accounts.

Investment Policy Statement Review:

After we gather all pertinent information regarding your financial situation, we will compile an Investment Policy Statement. This document outlines your current financial picture, your financial goals and objectives, and the steps that IPS will take to assist you in achieving those goals. At this meeting we will discuss the information covered in the Investment Policy Statement to ensure that we agree on the stated terms and objectives.

First Quarter Review:

We understand that moving to a new wealth manager can mean significant changes. We schedule a meeting with you after the first quarter of investing with IPS to make sure that we are meeting your expectations. At this time we will discuss your experience with IPS, including the account set-up process, client communication, and investment philosophy. This is an unstructured meeting—our goal is simply to touch base with you and make sure that your transition is going smoothly.

Annual Review:

Each year we meet with our clients, one-on-one, to go over your accounts and your Investment Policy Statement. We will discuss any changes to your financial situation and outline actions that we will need to take throughout the year to meet your financial goals and requirements.
